The house built from the roof down

June 20, 2026

I had already succeeded, in the way the world counts success. Seventeen years in international finance, including Citigroup. Then seventeen years building Sequoia. On paper, everything was there. And yet.

I had already succeeded, in the way the world counts success. Seventeen years in international finance, including Citigroup. Then seventeen years building Sequoia — from 5 to 30 million euros, a vision capital carried at arm's length, sold in 2024. On paper, everything was there. And yet.

It wasn't success that woke me up. It was a call, in 2024, toward a building. An architecture signed by my great-grandfather — a family branch I knew almost nothing about. So I set out to understand that past. And that past revealed to me far more than I imagined: whole parts of myself that I carried without knowing it.

And then there was a health diagnosis, in early 2026. A shock. The unknown. I could no longer ignore it.

I believe today that these three moments were telling the same story, in an order I hadn't chosen: I had been taught to build from the top down. First performance, structure, the system — and only afterward, if life insists hard enough, the foundations. And even the foundations are often laid while ignoring the roots beneath.

Epigenetics says it in its own words, differently from me: what we haven't made conscious, the body carries anyway, generation after generation. We are an ecosystem — made of visible and invisible parts, conscious and unconscious, in constant interdependence. What we eat, what we think, what we silence, all of it weighs on the same scale. A silenced suffering doesn't disappear — it waits, quietly, until someone has the ear to hear it.

I don't believe I'm an isolated case. I believe this is the order many of us inherited: succeed first, meet yourself later — if you're lucky, or if the body forces you to.

What if we reversed it now, knowingly? The Self, the body, health — as the foundation. But even that foundation has roots we too often ignore: lineage, what precedes us and keeps running through us without our having chosen it. And money, structures, systems, as what we choose to build once we know what — and who — we're standing on.

I have no method to pass on here. Just a house I'm rebuilding, this time from the foundations and the roots up.
